Art Nouveau- Gustav Klimt

Gustav Klimt was one of the leaders of Art Nouveau. This was on of his paintings entitled "Death and Life". He started this oil painting in 1908 and didn't finish it until 1915. It was considered art nouveau due to the modern style of depicting a story in his work. What I find most interesting is that in this painting the people who are lively do not seem to be frightened by the dark figure of death, instead they have peaceful faces and are living in bright colors. It looks as if the figure of death is looking over the people as if he is trying to determine who to take next. I also enjoy how Klimt uses both human bodies and geometric shapes and patterns to come together in a beautiful piece of work.
