Ai Weiwei

This was Ai Weiwei's first major public exhibit in America. The exhibit, Circle of Animals/Zodiac Heads, appeared in Manhattan's Grand Army Plaza in 2011. The heads are a reinterpretation of an 18th century Yuanming Yuan fountain-clock that featured 12 animals of the Chinese zodiac spouting water. Each head is approximately 800 pounds and Ai describes them as “a work that everyone can understand, including children and people who are not in the art world.”
