This is a self portrait of the artist Rembrandt. He was skilled in the art of etching which involved him drawing a variety of subject matter, from religious scenes to portraits, to ordinary life. I chose this particular etching because it shows how much detail he can can create just by using lines. Although I am not drawing people for my project, I think it is important to look at the detail of his lines, especially in this piece, in order to understand how different techniques can help create shadows and texture. He also is very skilled at etching landscapes, in particular trees and houses, where he pays very close attention to detail.
