Ai WeiWei Sunflower seeds
Ai WeiWei has established himself as one the biggest key figures in contemporary art. He is also very well known for his activism as he is for his art. His works are highly political, tackle China's history, human rights abuses worldwide and the global imbalance of power. This piece is called Sunflower Seeds. Each sunflower seed is porcelain and hand painted. It was painted by a small group of workers. This jar holds roughly 1000 seeds. I honestly do not understand the meaning behind it. At first glance, I would not necessarily call it art. But who knows?
